Understanding Paint
On our heads and bodies, we have a code of 16 numbers, each one representing a color. Most of the heads and bodies paint the same way, with a few exceptions. (We will get to those later!)
Bodies
Here is a typical paint code for a body: 222 194 195 196 196 75 74 73 72 71 222 195 196 197 198 222
It is called Jade Jeans and Top, a darker green top and green jeans with a medium tan skin.
- The first 5 numbers, in this case 222-196, paints the bottom, or the jeans.
- The next 5 numbers, in this case 75-71, paints the body skin.
- The next 5 numbers, in this case 222-198, paints the upper, usually the shirt.
The last digit, in this case 222, paints a buckle or buttons if they exist. If not, it is just a placeholder. I always give it a number and never leave it the default of 39. Who wants a red belt buckle?
It is a good idea to study the Color Map in the Paint Studio so you can learn what colors equal which numbers. It is also a good practice to start by keeping in one color range, numbers in sequence, until you see how they work together. Going in order one way produces a smooth look. Skipping numbers provides a shiny look. Reversing the order creates a velvety look. Once you know how it works, you will have fun creating these looks for yourself and your friends.
Heads
Here is a typical paint code for a head: 78 77 76 75 74 73 72 71 70 69 222 195 196 197 198 222
It is called Jade Head. It has matching paint codes to the body code we just looked at.
- The first 10 numbers, 78- 69, are the face skin codes.
- The next 5 numbers, 222-198, are the hair.
- The last digit 222 paints the eyes.
*~* Each head paints differently, so the skin you like on one head may not work on the next head. Always try to match your body skin tone. *~*
Painter Programs
Lots of people like to use the paint programs created for VZones, notably Kenns Painter KPaint, or Houstons Colour Studio. For both of these programs, you will need to load bitmaps (bmps) of the bodies and heads you would like to paint. Sly and Pyewacket have a good listing of bmps. The programs are fairly easy to use and just require playing around a little bit.
I myself like to use the already built in feature in our VZones software called Test Colours and Graphics. It is located right above the Tell Me About at the bottom.
I simply click on my avatar or head, select Test Colours and Graphics and just plug in the numbers. I cannot hurt anything and can re-do endless times, using Modify, Rotate, Reset. If I want to test another head or body type, I can change the Graphic Image (.img) there too, at the bottom! If I am in a turf that I own, I can simply Close instead of Quit, and the change I made will stay until I leave the room or ghost. If I am out in public, I just click Quit and the changes disappear.
