GiaParticipantI’ve brought this up before. @CosmicAndy can the event boxes include a host voucher? Have other hosts gotten vouchers? Its kind of like not being paid. We have had a lot of events and I love hosting and participating.

ZophiaMemberNo, we have not gotten host vouchers for events. In the past, we used to receive a special container as a hosting gift, that went along with the event.

CosmicAndyOrganizerI thought I had replied to this last month when you asked, but just to confirm—every game hosted, including event games, is included in the monthly sending.
We don’t set any restrictions on this, but for event games the host can decide whether to give out only event prizes, or both event prizes and vouchers. Regardless of that choice, the host reward box is always included and sent as normal.
Example:
-
You host 1 game every day for 7 days (2 of those days are event days).
-
The bot would send you 7 voucher boxes for the month (one per game hosted).
-
In addition, you would receive 2 event prize boxes for the event days.
This means you technically end up with 2 prize boxes that don’t necessarily need to be given out. You can either keep them as your own reward or choose to give them out—it’s up to you. Either way, you still receive the host voucher.
I hope this makes things clearer. We could also look into providing each host with one dedicated box of prizes to keep. Let’s discuss this idea in the next meeting and add it to the list if there’s interest.

GiaMember@CosmicAndy – I sent the extra EVENT game boxes back to Postman Walter. I thought they were mistakes.

XieTooMemberI had to read your explanation twice to understand, but just to make it more clear….
You’re saying that a host would get 7 boxes of vouchers if they host 7 days. PLUS, if they host 2 games at an event they would be using event prize sets instead of their regular voucher sets. Yes? If I’m correct, are you are saying that the HOST can keep those two voucher sets to use for themselves? So, I host one game a week regularly on Tuesday. I do host at events. I’m not substituting event prize sets for any regular hosting sets. So, the scenario you describe doesn’t fit for me, and I’m sure others as well.
What I do when I have extra vouchers, I use them for random “Double Voucher” Days, OR I use them in addition to the event sets in different ways. I haven’t kept any vouchers for myself unless they are specifically designated as “Host Voucher”.
In the past, Hosts would receive a “Host Thank You” box of vouchers that was reflective of the number of games they hosted in the previous month. For instance, say Gia hosts 20 games a month and I host 4 games a month, of course Gia should receive more of a hosting reward than I do.
I’d be interested to know what other hosts have to say.

EmmMemberI don’t see the problem, if you host in an event , you have eventprizes and a box with 4/3/2/1/1/1/3 V. compensates for being unable to play while hosting, and indeed you can out vouchers too as DPs as you please.
If anything, it’s an incentive to host in events. And sometimes I host double voucher games, just to get rid of some.

CosmicAndyOrganizer@XieToo Emm has replied with what I was going to say. Hosts have a choice to keep the vouchers or hand them out but this compensates you with the additional full box.
I’ve added a note for the next meeting to discuss hosts getting a prize box during events.

GiaMemberdo you want to know the incentive was for me to host? HOSTS were rewarded GOLD. I happily added games to the schedule. I started with 2 per day. At the end of the month I waited for the Gold. and waited. and waited. I asked Pye when i would get the gold and she answered that Oh that was changed. You will get vouchers. No fault on Pye. She was just doing what she was told. The host instructions included Gold for a long time. I dont know who or how many hosts signed on because they thought they would get Gold. I didn’t quit hosting. I love giving out prizes and playing with you all. I dont do it for Vouchers.
BTW this last weeks events were the only time I was sent extra event boxes. That is why i returned them. I gave a box to a host who needed them.

XieTooMemberThat must have been a while ago… I’ve been hosting since I got back and gold has never been a host reward. Obviously, some sort of reward is incentive to host but many times mine go to players…. lol maybe that’s why it’s taking me so long to get around to getting one of the host turfs. 🤣

TabithaMemberlololol i should be sitting on my damn hands but i’m not going to,,,,,
1st all the vouchers in vzones ain’t worth shit if there is nothing decent to buy (not Dia’s fault she’s ill and needs her rest. this started when someone jacked up the prices and cut stock into a 1/3 of what we had, oh and offered rent tickets for an obscene amount of vouchers)
2nd getting a box of vouchers to miss out on one day only event prizes doesn’t even come close to compensation
3rd and my final thing…WHY is it so AWFUL to compensate your hosts for volunteering their time? I could care less most of the time but a couple comments in this thread pissed me off fa fa….
ps. This is what many of the people who have left or are leaving have said.
*gets down off her soap box*

CosmicAndyOrganizer@Tabitha When you mention many hosts leaving, I assume you’re referring to Luna and L’AD? I’m not aware of other hosts who’ve stepped away specifically because of dissatisfaction with rewards.
I’m a little puzzled by your post, since the voucher prizes in the Host Mart went back to the original rates months ago. Are you still seeing something different on your end with the value of the items?
As for compensation, I don’t think anyone here has suggested that rewarding hosts is “awful”, I can’t recall any host directly asking for compensation. Most people host because of their passion and enjoyment of VZones, it’s part of the fun, not something we want to turn into an automated process with a bot.
That said, I do appreciate your feedback about the box of vouchers not being as appealing as prize sets. I’ve added this to the agenda for the next town meeting so we can discuss offering prize sets for hosts.

XieTooMemberJust tossing an idea out here… Could there be a Special Item created for JUST hosts to receive …. put a vendo in host area by the house/host area tickets, so that hosts can get ONE of them? This will make it limited to a special reward for hosts, created by one of our artists, limited-edition inworld. This could be something new monthly and not available to everyone else iw. Hosts could decide if it’s something they want to keep for themselves or gift to a friend. The item could even be in a special box named for the previous month. IE: Starting September 1st, the item box could be named “Host Reward – August ’25.” That way those that “collect” could keep them in an area and easily find them.
Just another side note: I’m not particularly in favor of all hosts receiving an event set because that’s usually something special the Event Host receives for all the work they do over the course of weeks, which is a big undertaking. I think that can be a slippery slope where some can host a game or two and others can host ten games.
Looking forward to further discussion on the matter.

CosmicAndyOrganizerNew art brings us back to the original issue we tried to solve with the host market a few months ago. You raised a strong point: a few months ago, we had a host who ran just one hour a month but still took full advantage of everything in the host market. Meanwhile, another host putting in one hour a day was essentially receiving the same benefit. On the other end of the spectrum, we have hosts contributing 30+ hours a month who didn’t want any rewards at all and give it away.
What we’re really doing here is looking for a fix to cover up the deeper issue with the broken voucher system we tried to address a few months ago. In reality, this doesn’t solve the underlying problem with the host reward system, it just patches over it. That said, it may be the easier path for now, since a smaller group of members prefer the current oversupply situation in the short term, even though it undermines the longer-term value and stability of vouchers as a meaningful currency/reward/prize system.
One idea we discussed was splitting the host market into tiers (or “rooms”), with access depending on how many games a host ran each month. That would prevent oversupply, since vouchers have been devalued to the point they’re no longer meaningful for hosts.
Another idea was a ticket system: for example, one Host Reward Ticket for every 10 games hosted. A ticket could be exchanged for a custom-made or painted item. This approach gives hosts flexibility to get exactly what they want, while ensuring tickets themselves can’t be traded, sold, or undervalued. Any item created for the host could still be sold or traded later, which keeps the system fair and valuable.
We can discuss further at the September meeting.

TabithaMember@CosmicAndy ok so awful was poor terminology, my apologies. I don’t neeeeeeeed anythig do i want things? yes. we all do. only Lad left due to hosting but Jo is leaving too for the same reason. A lot of people didn’t like the segregation and you fixed that. Thank you! When we do an event throw one more thing in the box for the hosts that only hosts can get maybe? idk
Nobody is ever around to holler for my games so i have to post and spam and pray. I’m not hosting the same old games I’m trying to bring some other games too. I’m not upset and I host because I love it. Just throwing something out there that was the scuttlebutt for a while 🙂

LadyDevraMember@CosmicAndy – people host as often as they can to due to many factors. RW is supposed to come first & it sure as hell does in my little piece of the world. However a *Tier* system IS like penalising to those who do not live IW 24/7. I have a life outside zones, as many do – no way I would be hosting 30plus games a month as some are bragging about. I don’t see what is wrong with the system you are using now – vouchers at the end of the month – it has been that way off & on for years and has never been a problem before. It is fair to all, the host that can only host one game a week, vs the host that hosts 15 a week. Hosting is not, nor has it ever been a contest, but sure seems it has turned into one. I kind of understand the ” stability of vouchers as a meaningful currency/reward/prize system” but we need to remember this is a Virtual World, not the RW… You hit us with taking our Millions of tokens from us when you opened the place… and did it help ??? Or should we be worrying about inflation in the coming months <G>.
PS – I never ever heard of any meetings before this post… interesting. 🤠

CosmicAndyOrganizerTotally understand, but the underlying principles are the same whether we’re talking about a virtual economy or the real world. As I mentioned when this was last discussed, if a currency has no value, then it provides no motivation or incentive.
If everything is free, included, or available in unlimited supply, the system quickly loses its purpose. It’s similar to playing a video game with 20 levels, but being allowed to skip straight to the final reward at any time. The challenge and progression disappear, and with them, the motivation to keep playing.
While not every member is driven purely by rewards, the majority are, and if there’s no sense of scarcity, achievement, or progression, boredom sets in fast.

XieTooMember@devramarie Andy is referring to a Town Hall Meeting, if I’m correct. IMHO I’m not sure that’s the best place for Host issues to be discussed by non-hosts, except on issues that benefit from a player’s viewpoint. BUT….. whaada I know?! 😜 I agree with you on what seems to be the “competitive” nature of things iw compared to how it was years ago. Who has the most, who has what others don’t, who gets chosen to participate in certain things, favatars, etc etc. Sometimes it seems like someone is enjoying sitting back and watching the lions scrambling for the red meat. EH… not my thing, so I choose what I enjoy doing, or enjoy what bit of artwork makes me smile.
